This Privacy Policy describes how the Joranelis iOS app (“Joranelis”, “we”, “us”) handles information. Joranelis is a personal foreign-language shadowing studio. It does not require an online account, does not show third-party ads in the booth, and does not sell personal data. Optional App Tracking Transparency and Adjust are used only to measure installs and product events, never to unlock practice.
1. Who we are
Joranelis is published as a consumer iOS app. For privacy questions, write to privacy@joranelis.app. For product help, use Studio Support or support@joranelis.app.
2. Your local library
Most studio data is stored only on your iPhone, including:
- Practice tapes you create, Starter Booth tapes, titles, languages, tags, and notes
- Editable sentences, optional translations, and key phrases
- Practice transcripts, match results, session notebooks, and reminder dates
- Nickname, optional avatar image, and a local studio ledger of activity on this device
- Studio settings such as playback speed and reminder time
You can edit or delete materials at any time from the studio. Clock Out (Leave the Booth) keeps this library on the device. Uninstalling the app removes local files unless iOS backups restore them.
3. Permissions you control
Each permission has a purpose. Allowing Camera, Photos, Microphone, or Speech Recognition is only needed for that control. Allowing Tracking is optional and never required to Start or practice. You can change any of these later in iOS Settings.
- Camera. Asked when you tap Open Camera. Used to photograph text so Apple Vision can extract lines for a practice tape. Photos are processed on the device. If you deny it, paste a script or use From Photos.
- Photo library. Asked when you pick an existing image for the same on-device text extraction. Joranelis does not upload your photo library. If you deny it, paste a script or use the camera (if allowed).
- Microphone. Asked when you tap the recording control on a take. Used to capture your shadowing audio for that take only.
- Speech recognition. Asked with the microphone so iOS can turn that take into an editable transcript. Joranelis does not keep a copy of the recording after the transcript is saved. If either permission is off, use a typed practice note and mark the line practiced.
- Tracking (App Tracking Transparency). Asked so Joranelis can use the advertising identifier (IDFA) with Adjust to measure which campaigns, if any, brought you to the studio. The system prompt is “Allow Joranelis to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites?” Choosing Ask App Not to Track or Allow does not change Starter Booth, custom tapes, or playback. You can switch this later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Refusing Tracking does not lock any studio feature.
4. Tracking and Adjust
Joranelis uses Adjust (Adjust GmbH) as an attribution and measurement partner. Adjust helps us understand installs and sessions so we can improve the studio and see whether marketing campaigns worked.
- With Tracking allowed. Adjust may receive the IDFA together with an app/device fingerprint such as IDFV, IP address, OS version, device model, locale, and coarse event names (for example install or session). It does not receive your tape scripts, photos, recordings, transcripts, or nickname.
- With Tracking denied. Joranelis still runs. Adjust is limited to measurement that does not use IDFA, such as SKAdNetwork where Apple supports it, and aggregated or on-device identifiers that Apple allows without ATT. We do not try to reconstruct a tracking profile after you tap Ask App Not to Track.
5. Apple services on device
- Vision. On-device text recognition for Scan / Shoot and From Photos.
- Spoken Content / TTS. On-device playback of each line. Optional local cache can be cleared in Studio Settings.
- Speech Recognition. When you record a take, iOS may send that audio to Apple to return text, according to Apple’s speech recognition terms. Joranelis stores the transcript you keep, not the raw audio file.
Apple’s handling of that data is described in Apple’s privacy policy and the relevant system prompts.
6. Optional translation assistance
Creating a practice tape keeps your original lines. If optional translation / key-phrase assistance is available, Joranelis may send only the minimum sentence text needed for that request over HTTPS to a translation provider. That text is used to fill editable translation and key-phrase fields. It is not used for advertising, ranking, or building a marketing profile.
If the request fails, times out, or is unavailable, your original lines stay on the tape. You can always edit or delete those fields yourself.
7. Purchases
Joranelis does not offer In-App Purchases, subscriptions, or paid token packs. Creating, saving, and practicing custom tapes is free on this device. There is no Restore Purchases control because nothing is sold in the app.
8. Third parties
Parties that may process data while you use the studio:
- Apple, for Vision, speech, SKAdNetwork, and the App Tracking Transparency prompt
- Adjust GmbH, for attribution and product measurement as described in Tracking and Adjust
- The optional translation provider, only when assistance actually runs, and only for the sentence text in that request
Those parties are expected to protect the data they receive with safeguards appropriate to this policy and applicable law. Joranelis does not sell personal information. Tracking across other companies’ apps and websites happens only if you tap Allow on the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
9. Children
Joranelis is a general-audience study tool. It is not directed at children under 13, is not listed in the Kids Category, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the optional translation path, contact us and we will help you remove local studio data.
10. Retention, consent, and deletion
Local studio data stays until you delete a tape, clear cached audio, Clock Out (data remains), Shred the Archive, or uninstall the app. Shred the Archive removes materials, sessions, files, profile, and settings on this device. Uninstalling also stops new Adjust events from this install.
There is no Joranelis cloud account to download. To revoke consent:
- Camera, Photos, Microphone, Speech Recognition: iOS Settings → Joranelis
- Tracking: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → Joranelis

11. Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the effective date here and present the update in the app. Continued use after the new effective date is governed by the updated policy.
